Permit Information

The City of Schofield contracts with the City of Wausau to provide building, electrical, heating and plumbing plan review and inspections.

PERMITS THAT ARE REQUIRED

Permits are required to not only ensure your project complies with City & State building and zoning codes; permits also assist in achieving a safe and structurally sound project.

Once the Zoning approval is received, the City of Wausau Inspections office process the permit application through their Evolve portal.

Below are the more common permits that are required:

  • New construction or an addition to a building.
  • Alterations/remodeling (i.e. kitchen cabinets, drywalling, bathroom remodels, etc.)
  • Construction of a detached garage, lean-to, storage building, gazebo, or any additions or alterations thereto. (This includes placement of prefab sheds over 150 square feet, and buildings built off-site.)
  • Construction or reconstruction of a deck, stoop, porch, or ramp.
  • Re-siding of a building, only if changing materials used (e.g. Changing from wood siding to vinyl needs a permit.)  (Also, house numbers must be reinstalled upon completion.)
  • Replacement of windows and doors, only if size & type changed from existing.
  • Installation of electrical circuitry.
  • Installation or replacement of plumbing fixtures (where piping needs to be reconstructed during replacement of the fixture).
  • Installation or replacement of heating units.
  • Installation of air conditioning units. (Exception: a permit is NOT required for window-mounted units.)
  • Construction or installation of a swimming pool.
  • Construction of a retaining wall, if 4′ or more in height from ground level.
  • Demolition of a building.
  • Construction, replacement or expansion of a fence (These permits are issued by the Zoning Administrator through the City of Schofield)

If what you plan on doing is not listed above, call the Zoning Administrator, Mark Thuot, at (715) 571-8286.
